Joi McGowan
(Regional Fellow)

Resilient Black Women
Fayetteville, AR

As a professional therapist with a God-sized heart for healing women of color, the TWFF has allowed Joi to build and launch Resilient Black Women, Inc, a non-profit organization that advocates and provides mental health services, and spaces for women of color for support, healing, and communion. With TWFF, Joi has produced community events, including “Conversations on Grief,” bringing much-needed light to the mental health issue for black women in Northwest Arkansas. With her grace-filled message, allowing women not always to have to be “strong” but to embrace resilience, she has been the message internationally with the podcast in conjunction with local NPR.

Emphasizing skills for returning citizens, YCP launched the Barbershop and Beauty Salon Franchise Entrepreneurs Program. With a vision of systemic change, YCP is partnering with a local Ohio Prosecutor’s office to bring the spirit of faith through restorative justice training. Stanly is now in talks to expand the work from Ohio to Michigan.

Min. Monique Jones
(Regional Fellow)

Fayetteville, AR
Connecting People with Resources Northwest Arkansas.

Monique Jones, one of the Arkansas Fellows, is an example of the leadership development power of the Fellowship. Monique credits the fellowship for encouraging, developing, and deepening her belief in herself as a leader of faith. Monique stepped out to make a difference in her community and ran for State Delegate in Arkansas. Now, the run was not made possible by the fellowship funding, but she credits the Fellowship itself--the investment of coaches, mentors, the programming, and the cohort of like-minded Black Christian leaders that builds confidence to lead in a big way.  After her run, seeing both vital community needs and the power of private and government resources, she began to build her new non-profit organization to eliminate barriers for those most needing support in Northwest Arkansas and to create structures for empowerment and success through strategic partnerships and funding.
